Gearbox Software and 2K Games need to get back to full Story Campaign DLCs for Borderlands 4 just like they did with previous Borderlands games because they dropped the ball with Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands’ Post-launch Content.
Learn From the Past
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands was positioned as a new franchise or a spin-off at best and therefore gets its own unique business case that has to justify its post-launch support. However, Borderlands 4 is going to be the NEXT BIG ONE! Gearbox Software and 2K Games will know that this will do the numbers. Therefore, unlike Wonderlands, they can invest resources into big story campaign add-ons just as they did with Borderlands 3.
Tell Me About…
There are lots of stories the developers can tell with a universe as big as Borderlands. Especially with the ability to literally visit other planets in the game. This opens up a lot of possibilities to create new and unique experiences.
Borderlands has a lot of fan-favorite characters and it’s impossible to let them all shine in the main game. Therefore, Gearbox Software could highlight one or some characters in their own story DLC. Because the community wonders what happened to their beloved character in between the main Borderlands games.
A Lasting Story
While I love the be entertained with a great story, I’m also still playing a looter shooter. After I’m done with the story, I want to go back and farm bosses for their dedicated loot. There has to be something to go back to and not make this a single experience.
I like that the devs go crazy and embrace the theme of the DLC into the weapons. While some of them will be very gimmicky there are always great opportunities for new gameplay interaction that lead to crazy builds.
The final boss of the story DLC usually has more mechanics to it to make it an interesting fight. I would love to see Gearbox Software add an option to those boss encounters that would increase the difficulty. Veteran players would love to see Raid Bosses with each DLC. Creating content for a subset of the player base can be relatively expensive to make. However, adding a Raid Boss Mode similar to True Trials from Borderlands 3 would give players that additional challenge. As the Bosses receive way more health, you will get way better loot.
But the real question is, what type of DLC do you want to see in Borderlands 4? Let me know your opinion in the comments below or tag @MentalMars on social media.
