The Borderlands Movie took several characters from the video game franchise and adapted them to the big screen but does that work both ways, should characters from the movie appear in Borderlands 4? If this concept sounds strange to you, well Gearbox Software actually did this before with Borderlands 3.
Randy Pitchford – Founder of Gearbox Entertainment – told in an interview with EPIC Games that he liked the second draft of the Borderlands Movie so much that some of that ended up in the game they were working on at the time. So… who are the characters that could make the jump?
The second (movie) draft didn’t quite work either, though Pitchford said he liked the story and some of the new characters so much that they were later written into Borderlands 3.

Larry
Larry (Bobby Lee) has a fun role in the Borderlands Movie, however, I don’t see his character adding any value to the main Borderlands games. Unless they start giving Rhys a soldier sidekick in Borderlands 4, however, I think they can give him a more interesting character.
Rhys is already a bit clumsy and therefore Zer0 was a good fit in Borderlands 3 to counter that. Adding a funny character next to that might not work that great.
Atlas
Atlas (Edgar Ramirez) was a new character for the Borderlands movie as the original CEO was never in the first Borderlands game and after the General Knoxx DLC, the company went under. Rhys later manages to rebuild the Atlas company after the events of Tales From the Borderlands and Borderlands Dept of Alive, therefore, there isn’t a real purpose for this character to make his way into the video game.
Commandant Knoxx
Commandant Knoxx (Janina Gavankar) could be an interesting character to add to the video game franchise because she is the daughter of General Knoxx. While her father was killed in the Borderlands (1) DLC, she could make her return as Rhys has restored the Atlas company. Commandant Knoxx could still follow in the footsteps of her father, however, her journey would be a bit different.
Janina Gavankar, who also voices Amara in Borderlands 3, requested a General Knoxx eyepatch as an element for her character to carry in the movie.
Conclusion
Commandant Knoxx might be the only interesting character from the movie to appear in the Borderlands games. If it’s not as a new side character, she might also appear in a new General Knoxx-like DLC.
I would love to see GBX pay respect to some Borderlands creators in Borderlands 4 as a few of them also showed up as extras in the Borderlands movie.
