On Twitter Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software teased that they will announce something on December 1st, 2016. Randy did not give any specific details on what this might be, but the thing that triggered this response could be an indicator of what to expect.
Randy Pitchford first tweeted that he got hate mail from someone that they needed to fix Gears of War. But Gears of War isn’t developed by Gearbox Software but by the Coalition, a new Microsoft studio that’s dedicated to the Gears of War franchise after Microsoft acquired the IP from Epic Games.
A Twitter user by the name of ‘The Alex’ asked Randy if this would an indicator of a Duke Nukem/Gears of War crossover game to which Randy responded that Gearbox Software would have a little something something to announce on December 1st.
So is this a direct hint at the Duke Nukem franchise or does Gearbox have anything else in store? It was mentioned in the past that Gearbox does have a concept for a new Duke Nukem game, but with the production of the Borderlands & Battleborn games, they didn’t have time to execute this project.
Since then the studio has expanded and a whole new studio is build in Quebec. So is Gearbox Software currently equipped with enough manpower to undertake another franchise at this time?
Time will tell…
There are still a few other rumors going around on what Gearbox Software is working on. We still have the Borderlands Remaster which was discovered in Dec. 2014.
Earlier this year there were some leaked screenshots and at E3 2016 a USB stick from Microsoft showed a trailer of a Bulletstorm Remaster. While the original game was published by EA the remaster is being published by Gearbox Software. As the developer of Bulletstorm, People Can Fly, also worked on Gears of War Judgement. It is possible that this is the game Randy is referring to.
But which game do you think Randy is teasing at?
