On The Hunt is an interview series where I talk with various Borderlands fans who are participating in The Hunt. We will dive into their experiences with the event and what it means to them. This article will feature Deceptix, Durchifall, Alec, and LoopyLou.

What is the Hunt

For those who don’t know what The Hunt is, here is a quick breakdown. The Hunt is a Borderlands Community-Led charity event. The goal is to have fun and have a positive impact on people’s lives.

Participants of The Hunt will challenge themselves in a Borderlands Scavenger Run while also raising money and awareness for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. During the challenge, players will start a new character and collect specific gear. The person that manages to collect the most points or completes the farm list in the least amount of time, wins the event.

So join the fun and have an impact on people’s lives as St. Jude is leading the way the world understands, treats, and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

Interview

Can you give a quick introduction of yourself?

Deceptix Logo

Hello, I’m Deceptix. I’m a top Borderlands speedrunner with multiple world records across the series. I’ve been speedrunning the Borderlands games for around 4 years now and have poured thousands of hours into multiple games in the series.

Durchifall

Hi, I’m Durchifall, or Durchi for short. I call myself a German Borderlands Content Creator. I started streaming in 2020 when Borderlands 3 was released on Steam. In addition to Borderlands, I have all kinds of games related to loot, such as Looter Shooters, RPGs, and Survival Games. I’m more of a calm, relaxed type who can best help if questions arise about the games that I know of. For me, it’s all about the fun in games!

AlecTheCleric

I’m AlecTheCleric. I’m a Borderlands and Wonderlands content creator, professional YouTube editor for lots of incredible creators, and an all around weird dad that has no idea what I’m doing when I play games, but we always have a great time.

LoopyLou

I’m LoopyLou I’ve been a gamer ever since the Atari. I’ve been streaming for nearly 2 years and have met the most amazing friends through Twitch.

What is your history with Borderlands 2?

Deceptix Logo

The first time I played Borderlands 2 was back around 2015 when a friend introduced me to the game. I enjoyed the heck out of it when I first played it but never got into the later playthroughs or any of the more in-depth stuff the game had to offer. However, when I was re-introduced to the game through the speedrun, it brought back my love for the game and since then I have enjoyed every hour I have spent playing this game.

Durchifall

Borderlands 2 was the first Borderlands game that I came into contact with in the series. Even though I was familiar with the series, I had nothing to do with the games until I came across it on Steam when I was looking for co-op games and the game convinced me with its humor. But I spent most of my time in BL2 casually and didn’t think much about the endgame, which changed when BL3 was announced and I couldn’t have enough input about everything Borderlands-related.

AlecTheCleric

I came to the franchise pretty late in the life span of BL2. I was a big competitive shooter player back in the day so a single player game like BL2 didn’t really interest me. But once I started editing videos professionally and linked up with the amazing Ki11er Six, I really fell in love with the franchise. Haven’t looked back since.

LoopyLou

I’m relatively new to Borderlands games starting off with Tales From the borderlands about 4 years ago then moving on to BL1 and 2. I was addicted to BL2 straight away, playing online with people all over the world.

What does the Hunt mean to you?

Deceptix Logo

The Hunt is pretty special to me as it was the thing that introduced me to the Borderlands community back in 2019, and while I couldn’t take part in The Hunt at the time I knew it was something I wanted to do at some point in the future. Once I was able to participate in the first Borderlands 3 hunt I was instantly hooked and look forward to it every time. I also love routing so being able to find the best ways to get through all the requirements for the hunt as fast as possible makes it so much more fun for me, AND I get to help raise money for St. Jude.

Durchifall

My first thought when I found out about The Hunt was: “There are a lot of people watching, I have to join in to become part of the community!” Even if that wasn’t a wrong idea, a much more important point has now come to the fore: the kids! Collecting money to support the kids of St. Jude is the most important thing for me when it comes to the Hunt and I’m very happy to see how the whole community comes together and achieves incredible things.

AlecTheCleric

The Hunt is my absolute favorite time of the streaming year. It is the most incredible charity event I have ever had the pleasure of being a part of. Seeing the whole community come together just to do some good in the world is absolutely awe inspiring.

LoopyLou

My first Hunt was Borderlands in the Shade and loved every minute of it.

Do you have any expectations for the hunt?

Deceptix Logo

I usually don’t have any expectations going into each hunt but I want to try and make it as entertaining and as fun as possible while showing off some cool strats along the way.

Durchifall

Mostly just have a ton of fun, get in touch with the other awesome participants, and raise more money for the Kids than last time. Farming many Points would be nice as well, but that would be just a nice bonus.

AlecTheCleric

My expectations are always blown completely out of the water by the generous nature of this community. I always expect to be surprised and I’m never disappointed

LoopyLou

The Hunt is such an amazing opportunity to support St. Jude, helping the children and family in need but also for the community to come together and work as a collective unit.

Are you a competitive person and participating to win or is it for fun?

Deceptix Logo

I am a very competitive person. I mean, I do speedruns on a daily basis so I am always competing against myself and others. The hunt is no different, I try my best to be at the top of the leaderboards and I spend a decent amount of time refining the routes that I use. Although, most of my knowledge comes from my background in speedrunning so I have a little advantage there.

Durchifall

I’m not a competitive person, but I have high expectations of myself. But this Hunt will be just for fun. I’m not that deep into Borderlands 2 then 3, so I am just here to have a good time and raise money for St. Jude.

AlecTheCleric

I’m definitely a competitive person, but to me the hunt isn’t about the competition.  It’s about the kids.  I don’t really care what my score is so long as my community does its part to help save some kids lives.

LoopyLou

I don’t take part in The Hunt to win I only want to raise money for the children, I’m not competitive at all.

Is this your first Hunt or are you regular?

Deceptix Logo

This will be the 5th hunt I am participating in so I guess you could say I am a regular.

Durchifall

This should be my fourth Hunt, but my first Borderlands 2 Hunt. I did every Hunt since I started streaming, except the last Borderlands 2 Hunt, cause I thought I wouldn’t do so well. This time it doesn’t matter to me at all how I will perform, so here we go!

AlecTheCleric

This is my 6th Hunt that I have participated in

Any exciting things during your last attempt?

Deceptix Logo

During the last Borderlands 2 hunt, after struggling through some of the other farms during The Hunt (6 hour twister hahaha), getting the Cobra at the end for the win was a moment I won’t forget. Being able to pull it back and win with the Cobra as the last drop is one of my favorite memories from these events.

Durchifall

Killing Lilith two times at the start was pretty exciting, to be honest.. jokes aside, I was just overwhelmed by the community and how they all came together to do good things. Proud of every one of them!

AlecTheCleric

My community absolutely smashed our fundraising goal.  I cried a lot when I saw how much we raised.

LoopyLou

The most exciting thing that happened to me during the previous hunt was hitting 4 goals, it was overwhelming and very exciting.

What is your most feared item to loot during the Hunt?

Deceptix Logo

THE TWISTER! Without a doubt my least favorite and most feared item to farm is the Twister. It feels like a never ending torture device mostly because I hate sitting still and that is exactly what that farm is. I really hope it goes by faster than it did last time…

Durchifall

Since the points aren’t that important to me this time, my most feared items are the ones for which I have to walk across the entire map from the spawn. I’m patient, but I’m also too spoiled by Borderlands 3.

AlecTheCleric

Cobra.  Easily Cobra.  I still have never gotten one

LoopyLou

I actually dread farming any gear, as my community will tell you, I do not like to farm at all. I’m doing this for the children and families in need of support. As far as OP levels I’m not sure if I’ll even get that far it seems so far away at the moment.

Are you adding any “mayhem modifiers” to your stream if you hit certain donation goals?

Deceptix Logo

While I don’t plan to have any, you never know what could happen as it gets closer to the start of The Hunt.

Durchifall

I don’t have any donation goals. I don’t like convincing people to give more money when there might be none left, just to achieve the goal. If they have enough money, they can donate it and that is fine. They can still make my gaming experience more difficult by spending channel points.

AlecTheCleric

Not really modifiers but we do have some fun stretch goals planned.  If we hit our initial goal of 1k I will be wearing my infamous AlecTheMaid outfit for the remainder of the hunt.  That’s a lot of UwU

LoopyLou

Psycho Facepaint

Do you have a quick tip for new players who are new the the Hunt?

Deceptix Logo

The best tip I could give to new players who are looking to be competitive is to have a plan. Having an EXP route and understanding what gear you need in order to easily take out bosses to farm their loot efficiently is important. It can be very easy to get caught off guard by something you aren’t prepared for, especially if you aren’t used to going through the game as fast as possible. At the end of the day, all that matters is that you enjoy your time hunting.

Durchifall

I will be a bit boring here but just have fun. Interact with your community, get in touch with other participants, and gather some coins for the kids. And if you want to complete The Hunt, I would say practice a lot in advance. Decide where you want to go and when, which quests are necessary and which can be skipped, and maybe watch videos of how other Borderlands speedrunners beat the game for further inspiration.

AlecTheCleric

Don’t forget what the event is all about.  Yeah, the competition is fun, but the charity is what it is really about.

LoopyLou

If I could give any advice to streamers new to The Hunt it would be to just have fun, enjoy your community and relax. There’s always support, advice and websites, like yours, that will help you along the way.

Final Words

Thank you Deceptix, Durchifall, AlecTheCleric, and LoopyLou for this interview. Good luck and have fun during your run.
