Enemies in Borderlands 4 can be augmented with various modifiers, adding new effects to them and spicing up their abilities. These effects are stated underneath their Healthbars.
We have no Mayhem Modifiers in BL4, these are just traits that are more inspired by the likes of other ARPGs that add little wrinkles to enemies to keep combat unpredictable and interesting. These are not punishing effects.

Modifiers
Name | Description |
---|---|
Chain Master | Links to nearby enemies with a damaging elemental beam, like BL3 + TTWL? |
Contagios | Flying projectiles around the enemy? |
Deflector | Projectiles randomly deflect off the enemy and do not reflect back to you (as far as the gameplay footage shows). |
Elemental Eater | Elemental Damage becomes less effective, like BL3 + TTWL? |
Fast Forward | One quick dodge ability? because the listing of this modifier disappears after quickly shifting around. |
Immovable | Cannot be knocked back by the player? |
Leaking | Leaves behind an elemental damage trail as they move |
Quickened | Increased movement speed? |
Regenerative | Health Regen? |
Ticking | Enemy explode on death? |
My Perspective
Early community impressions that I have seen don’t seem to like these modifiers as they remind them of the Borderlands 3 Mayhem Modifiers and the Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Curses.
There is a reason why folks asked for Mayhem 11 in Borderlands 3 because they didn’t like to jump through hoops all the time.
I think these modifiers can sprinkle in some variations, but I hope that Gearbox Software doesn’t mix in a ton of these modifiers and they become annoying again.
