Shields in Borderlands 4 provide your Vault Hunter with the protection they need while conquering Kairos, as they defend your life bar from damage in the game. While there currently aren’t a lot of details about the Borderlands 4 Shields, there are a few interesting details to talk about.

Armor
Gearbox Developers revealed during their PAX East Panel that there is a new Shield Type in Borderlands 4 called Armor, and unlike traditional Shields, this offensive Shield has a chance of regenerating while in combat.
The way I can see this work is that enemies will drop a “Shield Booster” when they take damage or die. You can then pick up these boosters to refill a portion of your Armor capacity. This incentivizes an offensive play style to keep your health up, while you could hide for a few seconds to regain your protection when using regular shields.
We have seen these orange shield plates drop throughout the Borderlands 4 Trailers which would fit the senario i’m describing but we have been told that’s Ordinite.
Spike Shield
I noticed an interesting Visual Effect during Borderlands 4’s Nintendo Switch 2 Developer Diary. The player gets attacked during the footage and as their shield breaks a holographic branch with with sharp thorns emits from the player for a very brief moment.
I believe this a new visual effect for Spike Shields to showcase that it deals damage back to melee attackers.
