Weapon Types
Borderlands 4 has 7 different weapon types, each one comes with its own pros & cons, and has its own ammo type, with Grenades and Heavy Weapons having a cooldown in their dedicated Ordinance Slot.
Weapon Type | Manufacturers (WIP) |
---|---|
Pistols | Daedalus, Jakobs, Maliwan, Tediore, Torgue, Vladof |
SMGs | Daedalus, Maliwan, Tediore |
Assault Rifles | Ripper, Daedalus, Jakobs, Torgue, Vladof |
Shotguns | Daedalus, Jakobs, Maliwan, Tediore, Torgue |
Snipers | … |
Heavy Launchers | … |
Grenades | … |
Tip: Mix up your inventory with different weapon types because that way, once you run out of ammo with one type of weapon, you can always switch to a different type.
Weapon Manufacturers
Borderlands 4 will feature 3 new and 5 returning weapon manufacturers. Each manufacturer has their own unique weapon traits, which you can discover below, but some traits can cross over due to the new licensed-part system.
Daedalus
Easy to use, reliable, and quick to reload, Daedalus guns run the gamut from full-auto assault rifles and shotguns to burst-fire pistols and SMGs, with the ability to use multiple ammo types.
Example: A Daedalus Assault Rifle can use the ALT-Fire to switch to Pistol ammo.
Jakobs
Jakobs’ black-powder firearms pack some mean critical-damage ricochets and can unload bullets in a flash, perfect for sharpshooters with twitchy trigger fingers.
Maliwan
Burn, freeze, and shock anyone who gets in your way with the elemental damage of Maliwan’s high-tech weapons, withering your enemies with damage-over-time effects.
Order
Use the advanced arsenal of the Timekeeper’s Order army against him, loading extra ammo into high-powered bursts to eliminate targets with precision accuracy.
Charge up your shots
Ripper
Good things come to those who wait—especially when it comes to Ripper guns, which need a moment to spin up before blasting at full-auto for as long as you hold the trigger.
Tediore
After you’ve emptied the clip of a Tediore weapon, toss your spent gun like a grenade, then get right back to firing as a fully loaded replica digistructs into your hands.
Guns with legs!!!
Torgue
When EXPLOSIONS are the only answer, turn the opposition into a smoldering crater with Torgue launchers, packing heavy-duty explosive rounds that can switch to sticky projectiles.
Vladof
With their high rate of fire and huge magazines, Vladof rifles can shred your enemies to pieces—but all that firepower comes at the cost of reduced accuracy and heavier handling.
Licensed-Parts System
Borderlands 4 features a new weapon part licensing system. Weapons can roll with additional manufacturer parts, adding manufacturer traits to the item.
The higher the rarity of the gun, the more Licensed Parts a weapon can have, with Epic weapons having the most parts, but Legendary weapons have a unique part. Each rarity has its own set of licensed parts.
You cannot craft or reroll the licensed parts on your gear.
Rarity | Max Licensed Parts (WIP) |
---|---|
Common | 1 |
Uncommon | 2 |
Rare | 3 |
Epic | 4 |
Legendary | 3 + 1 Unique Legendary Behavior |
GBX Devs mentioned during the PAX Deep Dive that Atlas, COV, and Hyperion aren’t full weapon manufacturers in Borderlands 4, but they will provide Licensed Parts to your gear.
Manufacturer | Licensed Part | Rarity | Description |
---|---|---|---|
Atlas | – | – | Adds a Homing mechanic to your Projectiles |
COV | – | – | Adds the Heat mechanic to your guns |
Hyperion | – | – | Adds a Front-Facing Shield to your weapon |
Maliwan | – | Epic | Can switch between Corrosive and Incendiary Elements |
Tediore | Shooting Legs | Epic | Thrown Weapon has legs and shoots enemies until out of Ammo. |
Torgue | Sticky Mag | Epic | Fires Sticky Gyrojets that explode on Reload, or when switching Modes, which increases explosion Damage by 3% each. |
Enhancements (the new artifacts) can boost weapons with specific licensed parts.
