Arkane Studios manages to sneak a classic easter egg into the latest Redfall Trailer. This reference was also present in their previous game, Deathloop, but you might have also encountered it in many other games.
As the Redfall Launch Trailer starts out, the camera moves in on the map that’s on the counter inside the store. There is something written on the map; “Rally 04:51 AM”.
The Code 0451 stems all the way back to the old System Shock from 1994 and is used in a lot of “immersive sim” games. While many believed it was a reference to the book Fahrenheit 451, it was actually the real-life code that opened the door to Looking Glass Studios’ headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusett, the studio that pioneered the “Immersive Sim” genre.
Warren Spector mentioned this detail in an interview while playing Deus Ex. The code also appears in Bioshock, Dishonored 2, Prey, Atomic Heart, and more. It’s a nice reference that pays homage to its lineage.
