With the upcoming Celebration of Togetherness, a lot of people speculated that it would be the announcement for cross-play. Except that is not the case according to Gearbox Software’s president Randy Pitchford. On Twitter, he responded to the community speculation.  Randy mentioned that the Celebration of Togetherness event will be awesome and that they will talk about cross-play later.

Gearbox Software and their partners are committed to supporting cross-play for Borderlands 3, however, it will not be available at launch. Randy couldn’t confirm which platforms will be part of their cross-play endeavors. That said, they want to bring the feature to as many platforms as they can.

If you are going to play Borderlands 3 on PC you don’t have to worry about the EPIC exclusivity deal. All the players can matchmake with each other regardless of the store they used. This news comes from EPIC CEO, Tim Sweeney, on twitter [1] [2].

Earlier when Borderlands 3 got announced you could spot a cross-play logo on the Borderlands 3 pre-order page in the Xbox Store. EPIC Games is also on the forefront of crossplay with their game Fortnite. While not everyone may like the exclusivity deal with the EPIC Games Store, this might just be one of those cool features that will help the game in the long run.
