Borderlands 4 will contain Cross-Platform Multiplayer, as the President of Gearbox Entertainment, Randy Pitchford, confirmed the studio’s support for this feature during an interview with Famitsu.
Earlier this feature was already listed on multiple storefronts, like the official Steam Store and Microsoft Store pages, however, the EPIC Store and the PlayStation Store pages don’t have Crossplay listed, therefore, it was unclear if Borderlands 4 would contain full cross-platform support, but that question has been answered now.
You can play together regardless of your platform, so you can be on PlayStation, I’m on PC, and another friend is on Xbox.
Platform | Crossplay |

PC | Yes |
Xbox | Yes |
PlayStation | Yes |
Switch 2 | Unconfirmed |
Update April 11, 2025: Borderlands 4 is now also announced for Nintendo Switch 2, but no statements regarding crossplay toward that specific platform have been made.
Gearbox Software and 2K Games announced Borderlands 4 at Gamescom 2024, and their teaser trailer incentivizes you to wishlist the game on various store pages. Analyzing these storefronts confirms the first details about Borderlands 4, such as Cross-Platform Multiplayer; however, not everything is filled out just yet, as the game is still in development.
Each store has its own minimum requirement to set up a product page because you can assume that the Steam and EPIC store versions of the game are the same, but the EPIC store gives almost no additional details.
Gearbox Software introduced Crossplay in their games with Borderlands 3 as the company built its own foundation (SHiFT) to support Cross-Platform Multiplayer between PC, Xbox, and PlayStation players. Initially, Sony’s platform was late to the crossplay party as they demanded compensation for this feature, but the business suits eventually managed to strike a deal with 2K Games, and now everyone can play Borderlands 3 together. Only the Nintendo Switch version of Borderlands 3 is currently not supported.
