Hardcore Borderlands fans are all about the End Game content and are already looking forward to learning what Borderlands 4 will have in store for them once they beat the main story campaign. Dedicated Loot Drops, Raid Bosses, and Takedowns are high up on the wishlists. While Gearbox Software and 2K Games are not actively promoting End Game content just yet, a first clue has already been uncovered.
Borderlands 4 was revealed during the Game Awards 2024 and 2K Games sent additional screenshots to the press alongside this event. EpicNNG quickly discovered something interesting about the odd naming convention. My fellow content creator also makes Mods for Borderlands and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands and is therefore familiar with how Gearbox Software names their content.
The Borderlands 4 screenshot showcasing the old construct with the rusty pipes and hanging cables has the name Ripper_Raid.
The Rippers are the augmented Psycho Bandits in Borderlands 4.
Gearbox Software names their End Game content as Raid because the Maliwan Takedown and Hemovorous The Invincible from Borderlands 3 also use this naming structure.
When this discovery was made and posted on social media, 2K Games changed the screenshots’ file names. This means we can potentially look forward to a Psycho Takedown or some other form of End Game content that resolves around the Rippers.
I want to add a word of caution because it would be the first time that something is shown off during the promotional campaign and later doesn’t make it into the final game. This was the case with the Borderlands 3 Raid Boss. Luckily, Gearbox Software was able to create the Borderlands 3 Director’s Cut and therefore several things that initially were cut did end up in the game as DLC. Renaming the file names is a form of managing expectations and avoiding potential spoilers.
