Alright, Vault Hunters, let’s talk Borderlands 4 and the Nintendo Switch 2 because Take-Two has made some interesting comments about their games and Nintendo’s upcoming platform.
Key Takeaways
- Borderlands 4 marketing could still embrace the Nintendo Switch 2
- Xbox Series S is a gateway to handheld gaming according to Phill Spencer (Head of Xbox)
- Stauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, is positive about Nintendo’s upcoming system, Switch 2.
Borderlands 3 on Nintendo Switch 2
Will Borderlands 4 release on the Nintendo Switch 2 and would you like to see that happen, because currently the game has only been announced for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, and that last one might just even make it possible for Borderlands 4 to release on the Switch 2, and I’ll get into that in a second.
And I get it if you are skeptical but we did get all previous Borderlands games on the Switch and it surprised me that they even got Borderlands 3 running on that system, therefore, I’m curious to see if they can get Borderlands 4 running on its successor.
The Xbox Series S may indirectly influence a potential Switch 2 port.
So I’m hearing you say; how is the Xbox Series S going to play a role in all of this? Well, some game developers have expressed their feelings about the system as they struggled to optimize their games for the weaker platform.
So my initial thought was is the Xbox Series S going to hold back Borderlands 4 as Gearbox Software needs to optimize their game for the platform with the lowest resources. With Borderlands 3 this meant they needed to keep the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in mind even though Hardcore gamers quickly obtained the next generation consoles.
However, Phil Spencer from Xbox has stated that they won’t be dropping the Xbox Series S requirement from launching on their ecosystem because they don’t see it as a weakness but as a strength as this allows their games to also be played on popular handheld devices.
Take-Two Interactive positive about the Nintendo Switch 2
Take Two-interactive has stated during the Q&A section in their Q3 Fiscal 2025 report that they will be supporting the Nintendo Switch 2 if it makes sense. Previously, this meant a lot of party titles, however, they have transitioned to mature games as the platform’s audience has shifted.
Borderlands 4 wasn’t announced for the Switch 2 because Nintendo had revealed their upcoming console at the time and even now we are still waiting to hear which major games will release on the system. So will Borderlands 4 be part of the upcoming Nintendo Direct that offers a closer look at the Nintendo Switch 2.
My Take on Borderlands 4 on Switch 2
Well, I hope so because Personally, I’m going to get a Switch 2 and I would love to play Borderlands 4 on the go, however, a cross-save feature would be great, so I can bring my favorite Vault Hunter from my main platform along with me.
But it wouldn’t surprise me if the game gets released a year after the initial launch and comes bundled with the first few DLCs as 2K Games releases an Ultimate Edition.
Are you getting a Nintendo Switch 2 and let me know which games you want to play on there?
