Borderlands 4 Reveal Trailer Breakdown
Borderlands 4 was shown off during The Game Awards 2024 with a spectacular trailer. I analyzed the footage frame-by-frame and made a whole breakdown video with things you might have missed.
Key Takeaways
The Timekeeper was foreshadowed in one of the Niriad logs in Borderlands 3. They were described as a Vault Monster but they look human.
A noteworthy thing is that the Vault shown in the artwork has a yellow glow instead of the common purple glow we have seen throughout the franchise. This suggests that this Vault might contain something different. If we compare this with the various loot rarities in the game, this might just be a legendary vault while the previous ones were epic vaults. The construction looks man-made instead of a mystical glowing rock portal. I’m curious to learn more about this.
One of the screenshots showed SCAV graffiti. In case you didn’t play Borderlands the Pre-Sequel, the SCAVs are the Bandit faction on Pandora’s moon Elpis in that game. It looks like we are getting some of that again in Borderlands 4.
The first guy with the 2 blue melee blades is one of the playable characters.
We are getting grappling hooks in Borderlands 4 but you need to use these anchor points. They can be seen in some of the other envoirements.
Zane is back but with an older look, however, his digi-clone still uses the Borderlands 3 look. Looking at Zane’s design, I’m getting the vibe that he has a prominent position, like he controls or owns something. This something could just be his own bar.
Legendary loot beams have a new base as they radiate this rainbow glow at the bottom. We also see them have an extra swirl around their main beam. We don’t know if this is just a regular legendary loot beam or if they have a special bonus to them, like the Anointments (BL3) or Enchantment (TTWL) from previous games.
Elpis is often visible in the sky. This was also the case in Borderlands 3 when you were on Pandora but I’m getting a Hyperion Spacestation vibe as in Borderlands 2, where you have this constant treat in the sky. Although, for the rebellion on Kairos this could also be a beacon of hope and their ticket out of there.
BTW. in the cinematic shot the broken barrier in the sky has a round hole while in the in-game shots, the hole is more of a tear as we saw in the teaser trailer.
The new vehicles look like Pod Racers from Star Wars but did you notice there isn’t a Catch-a-Ride station around? You can summon these vehicles on the spot.
Claptrap with a tool belt?
When that gold lady appears I get an upper-class gold-plated augment vibe from her but if you look at the background the arches of the corridor behind her look like multiple Vault arches.
Some weapons look like Jakobs, Maliwan, and Torgue weaponry, however, I can’t definitely recognize all the weapon manufacturers on the gear we see.
