Randy Pitchford shares his excitement and teases the upcoming Borderlands 4 trailer on social media. The President of Gearbox Entertainment states that the last frames of the teaser trailer – shown during Gamescom 2024 Opening Night Live – are the first frames of the upcoming trailer.
Randy continues telling us that we will see new things but also established characters with new designs.
UPDATE: Expect a lot of in-game footage and a sick, never-before-seen original cinematic sequence depicting a moment that occurs about halfway between the end of Borderlands 3 and the beginning of Borderlands 4.
Hidden Message Deciphered
The Borderlands Social Channels dropped a small teaser for their upcoming trailer at the Game Awards. Once again, there is a hidden message in the footage and the community quickly jumped on that to decipher its secrets.
The “one two one two” translates to “12/12” the date of the Game Awards.
The second part of the message “We are soon called” also seems to refer to the Game Awards but also signals that an entity will reveal itself.
My Perspective
Classic Randy, gotta love that excitement!
I hoped that Gearbox Software and 2K Games would show us a new Borderlands 4 trailer during the Game Awards on December 12, 2024, but this news from Randy confirms that they will have a presence during the awards show.
If we look back at how they revealed Borderlands 3, we could expect a trailer that teases the first details while showing a glimpse of the game. During the BL3 days, we got our first look at the Calypso Twins and the new planets while showing a lot of loot in an action-packed trailer.
The Borderlands 4 Game Awards trailer will be polished and won’t contain actual gameplay. Randy mentioned in-game footage but I expect cinematic shots instead of Run-and-Gun gameplay with a visible HUD.
The awards show usually has a fast pace where things need to wrap up quickly, therefore, I don’t expect a very long trailer. Gearbox Software and 2K Games could do a gameplay reveal event, similar to Borderlands 3.
