The Borderlands Movie is filled with references to the video games, however, multiple scenes with fan-favorite characters were cut from the final film. Eli Roth (Director of Borderlands Movie) reveals some of their plans interview with Entertainment Weekly and explains why these segments were left on the cutting-room floor.
One of those sequences is the wedding between Wainwright Jakobs (Cheyenne Jackson) and his partner Sir Alistair Hammerlock (Charles Babalola). You might know this is a whole adventure in the Borderlands 3 DLC; Guns, Love & Tentacles.
Eli Roth tells that they filmed the whole thing, however, they ultimately had to cut the wedding during the editing process because it threw off the movie’s pace. The scene itself turned out great, but in the overall mission of the film, it felt like a detour that stopped the mood and then went back.
This might also mean that Penn Jillette’s cameo in the Borderlands movie will also not happen as he mentioned that he played a preacher who oversees a wedding.
Eli Roth also tells that scenes with Scooter (Steven Boyer) and Ellie (Ryann Redmond) were affected by the final cut. While they created all these awesome elements and the actors nailed it, the scenes eventually don’t fit into the bigger picture.
We have to wait and see if Randy Pitchford’s cameo in the Borderlands movie will still be in the final cut because if it’s up to Randy himself, the scene can be removed as he also thought the Nolan North cameo in the Uncharted movie didn’t add anything.
The Borderlands movie releases in theaters on Aug 9, 2024.
