According to news outlets, the Borderlands Movie is in a Post-Production Hell with rewrites, test screenings last year, and reshoots earlier this year. Last month we heard Benjamin Byron Davis say that post-production has taken some time.
New fuel to the fire is that Last of Us writer, Craig Mazin, has removed his name from the credits as noted on the Writer’s Guild website. Joe Crombie is appositely intended as a pseudonym for Craig Mazin similar to how directors use the fake name of Alan Smithee to dissociate themselves from the final product.
Variety managed to contact Craig Mazin and he is denying his involvement with the Borderlands Movie.
I am not a credited writer on the film, so I cannot claim any kind of authorship of ‘Borderlands,’ much less ‘co-writing’. I did see the report about the pseudonym, which is false. I did not use a pseudonym. If the name in question is indeed a pseudonym, all I can say is… it’s not mine.
Craig Mazin
This is kinda weird as his name is listed on the official website; “Screenplay By Craig Mazin and Eli Roth”.
When they started out making the Borderlands Movie, Randy Pitchford mentioned that Arad Productions wanted to crack the code for video game movies as they did with superhero movies. Rewrites and reshoots are nothing new to the film industry. Randy said they wanted to get it right but it seems it’s taking longer than expected.
