Everything You Need To Know About New Tales From The Borderlands

New Tales from the Borderlands - Official Announce Trailer

What is New Tales From The Borderlands?

New Tales from the Borderlands is a new standalone game that is developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games.

It’s a single-player choice-based interactive narrative adventure that is set in the Borderlands universe. See it as an interactive movie where you get to make the choices of the lead character. Maybe you have played previous Telltale Games or viewed Minecraft Story Mode on Netflix.

You will be confronted with quick-time events throughout the story. During these moments you need to decide how the characters respond. But be careful as these choices will impact your adventure and can have great consequences on things to come.

When does New Tales From The Borderlands take place?

New Tales From The Borderlands takes place 1 year after the events of Borderlands 3. The war-torn planet Promethea is recovering from the hostile takeover by Maliwan when this new narrative-driven story adventure begins.

During your adventure, you will decide the fate of three underdogs on the worst day of their lives as they face down a planetary invasion, vicious vault monster, and cold-hearted capitalist.

Who are the characters I’m playing as?

The main playable characters are the altruistic scientist Anu, her ambitious “streetwise” brother Octavio, and the fierce, frogurt-flinging Fran.

Your decisions will determine how their story unfolds in unexpected ways. Whether it’s Anu’s vision of a universe that markets more than weapons, Octavio’s dreams of fame and fortune, or Fran’s frosty plot for revenge, their success or failure depends on you.

Will I encounter familiar faces from the main Borderlands franchise?

Yes, you will meet some familiar faces from the main Borderlands franchise. You can already see Rhys in the announcement trailer but there are more things that reference previous Borderlands titles.

Another thing you can see in the screenshots is a holographic sign of a Catch-a-Ride station.

The Original Tales From The Borderlands was also jam-packed with references for fans to pick up on. This is something Gearbox Software likes to do.

Is this a Passive Experience?

New Tales From The Borderlands isn’t as intense as the main games in the franchise. That said, it isn’t a passive experience where you just have to sit back and watch the game play itself. You will be surprised by quick-time events that determine the outcome of a scenario.

There are areas to explore where you can find in-game money and collectibles.

You can use these Vaultlander collectibles in duels against various NPCs. They are kinda your quick-time event Pokemon battles. But beware these Vaultlander battles are for keeps, this means that the winner will take the loser’s Vaultlander for their collection.

When is New Tales From The Borderlands coming out?

New Tales From The Borderlands releases on October 21, 2022, on PlayStation®5 / Xbox Series X|S / PlayStation®4 [+Pro] / Xbox One [S & X] / Nintendo Switch / PC [Steam & Epic Games Store].

There is a Pre-order Bonus! This gives you access to the Adventure Capital Pack that contains cosmetics for Anu, Octavio, and Fran, 10,000 in-game currency, and an in-game FL4K Vaultlander collectible.

There is a Standard Edition (Digital Only) and a Deluxe Edition (Digital + Physical) that also includes the Original Tales From The Borderlands!
