Gearbox Software Is Cooking Something Up

Gearbox Software is working on a video production as several employees post about an “On-Camera Day at the office” on their social media channels. This could mean several things, however, I think one is more likely than another. But let’s break down all the possibilities about what this could mean for us Borderlands fans.

Borderlands 4 Developer Video

The best possible outcome would be that Gearbox Software and 2K Games are filming a developer video about Borderlands 4. They have done these in the past with Borderlands 3 and Borderlands the Pre-Sequel where they talk about the journey and the creation of their upcoming title.

There is speculation that a new Borderlands game could be shown during the Summer Games Fest as 2K announced they will reveal a new game from one of their best-selling franchises. Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick said in an investor call that the company now plans to double down on Borderlands.

New Partnership Video

Gearbox Software and 2K Games have been working together for years, however, this was always at arm’s length. Now that Take-Two has purchased Gearbox Software from Embracer, they could be making a video where they talk about their collaborations and how they are excited about the future.

Echoes From the Borderlands – Season 2

Gearbox Software produced a Podcast last year called Echoes From the Borderlands. They invited various developers to this show to talk about the past, present, and future of the Borderlands franchise. Judging from their conversations and things that were going on in the community at that time, I believe that they recorded that podcast in early summer.

Echoes From the Borderlands was broadcast in September when the Pandora’s Box Bundle was released, however, it didn’t get a lot of views on YouTube. This is unfortunate because the show does pull back the curtain and tells the developer’s stories and some of their reasoning behind certain stuff. Yeah, they don’t straight up tell you; “Hey, we are working on XYZ and this is how it’s going to be in the next game” because it’s not that type of medium but that’s what a lot of people want to know.

Season 2 of Echoes From the Borderlands could talk about:

Conclusion

The Borderlands 4 developer video would be awesome but it seems unlikely at this stage.

While I do love an update about what we can expect from GBX and 2K moving forward because the whole power dynamic has changed, I don’t think they will create a video for this reason as I think it doesn’t provide a lot of value to them.

Season 2 of Echoes From the Borderlands sounds the most likely as it’s fan service, it creates a bond with the people and the franchise, and they get to raise awareness on some of their smaller projects while also talking about their big projects.
