Borderlands Collection: Pandora’s Box

Here is a breakdown of all the main content and major DLCs that are included in Pandora’s Box. I won’t be going over the smaller DLCs and Skins but this bundle contains every DLC that’s released up until September 1, 2023.

Borderlands

Borderlands (1) Screenshot featuring the original Vault Hunters, Roland, Lilith, Mordecai, and Brick

The original Borderlands game defined the Looter-Shooter genre and it was my dream game back in the day as I really liked FPS games and Action RPGs back in the day.

This classic got remastered in 2019 which leveled up the graphics, added quality-of-life improvements, and added new legendary loot.

In Borderlands (1), the original Vault Hunters are on a quest for a mysterious vault. It’s unknown if the legends are true. Find out as your adventure takes you through the badlands of Pandora.

Major Borderlands DLCs

Borderlands 2

Borderlands 2 Screenshot with the Vault hunters; Axton, Maya, Salvador, and Zero inside a car that slam into a skag

Borderlands 2 redefined the looter shooter formula as Gearbox Software managed to level up their game in almost every aspect. This game got me started as a content creator.

In Borderlands 2, a new corporation seeks to claim control over the planet Pandora and recruits a new group of Vault Hunters to search for the Vault. However, as you get betrayed by the corporation, you are on a quest to beat them at their own game.

Major Borderlands 2 DLCs

Borderlands The Pre-Sequel

Borderlands the Pre-Sequel is an interesting game. It takes place before the events of Borderlands 2 but is actually developed after that game’s release. Therefore, you see a lot of enhancements in the game itself.

The cool thing about BLTPS is that you get to play as some of the villains in the franchise.

BLTPS received some criticism early on due to its lack of end-game content and I think that the game therefore isn’t the highest praised game in the franchise. However, there have been updates that added farmable bosses but it’s a solid game, with great skill trees, new gameplay elements, and a good story.

Major Pre-Sequel DLCs

Tales From The Borderlands

Tales from the Borderlands brings something completely new to the franchise. This isn’t a looter-shooter but a narrative-driven adventure. It’s like an interactive movie where your dialogue choices affect the story. While it deviates from the main Borderlands gameplay, it actually nails the vibe of the universe.

I think Tales From The Borderlands is a great experience but I would slot it in my movie time rather than my game time and go through an episode each night.

You have some new characters that will return in future games and some established characters that spice up the adventure.

Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 brought the established looter-shooter formula to the modern day. With all-new Vault Hunters, gameplay, and quality-of-life improvements. Gearbox Software went all out on this one and it shows.

In Borderlands 3, the new Vault Hunters team up with the Crimson Raiders and help Lilith retrieve the lost Vault Key. However, they soon find out that these new baddies are about to unleash some serious damage.

Major Borderlands 3 DLCs

New Tales From the Borderlands

New Tales From The Borderlands is like (the “old”) Tales From The Borderlands, a choice-based interactive narrative adventure that is set in the Borderlands universe. It takes place 1 year after the events of Borderlands 3. The war-torn planet Promethea is recovering from the hostile takeover by Maliwan when your adventure begins.

In New Tales From The Borderlands, you get to decide the fate of three underdogs on the worst day of their lives as they face down a planetary invasion, a vicious vault monster, and a cold-hearted capitalist.

Just like the other Tales game, I would slot this in my movie time rather than my game time and do an episode each night. It was an overall enjoyable experience for me and the conclusion of this game could have a major impact on the Borderlands universe.

Conclusion

The Borderlands Pandora’s Box Collection is a great bundle that offers a lot of value for those who want to jump into the franchise or complete their collection.

If you are overwhelmed by the amount of content and don’t know where to start, I wrote a spoiler-free guide on the best order to play the Borderlands games. Borderlands 2 also has some DLCs that take place after the events of the main story, so if you want to avoid spoilers, I also have a guide on the BL2 DLC order.

For those who are wondering why Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands isn’t included in this bundle; while that game has its roots in the Borderlands franchise, it actually launched its own franchise with new experiences being in development.

FAQ

No, Borderlands 4 is not included in the Borderlands Collection: Pandora’s Box as this bundle only contains content that is released before September 1, 2023.

  1. I love Borderlands franchise, but I disliked the Pre-Sequel, and tales from the Borderlands. When it comes to TTW, I bought the elite version, but it certainly was not worth the price I paid. I think TTW, seemed more like a glorified tech demo. If you’re going to do D&D, go all in or go home. There was no balancing adjustments at all, they made, it became like that leftover in the back of the fridge.
