Redfall is the “Vampire Looter-Shooter” from Arkane Studios and indeed is an Open-World Game. The events of this Vampire apocalypse take place in the fictional town of Redfall, Massachusetts. This once-quaint place contains dense streets, residential suburbs, and rural farmland.
Redall features the biggest map that Arkane Studios has ever built as you can easily place the space station from Prey in farmland and that’s just a section of the map.
While Redfall features a large open world, the game is designed to be traversed by foot. Arkane Studios has put a lot of detail into environmental storytelling so there is always something for you to discover. Because Redfall’s open world is handcrafted by the master level designers behind Prey’s Talos I space station and Dishonored’s Dunwall.
The world of Redfall is divided into two districts. The first half of the missions take place in the downtown part of Redfall. As you familiarize yourself with the game’s mechanics you move on toward District 2 which is more of a rural/countryside area offering locations like farms, lighthouses, and churches.
While the town of Redfall is impacted by a constant eclipse, there is still a day-and-night cycle that influences the world. This not only alters the esthetics of the environment but also the type of enemies you encounter.
You don’t see the same vampire in the same spot always or cultists patrolling the same corner. Handcrafted encounters are randomly placed into the world.
There are Safe Houses throughout Redfall’s Open World that help you liberate the survivors from the Vampire apocalypse.
Redfall Releases on May 2, 2023, on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass.
