Gearbox Software introduces a lot of quality-of-life improvements in Borderlands 3 and one of them is a ping system. With this feature, you can easily highlight things in the game world. You will see a lot of articles calling out that Gearbox is adding a ping system just like the famous Apex Legends, however, they already implemented a ping system in their previous game, Battleborn. When playtesting Borderlands 3 the developers missed the feature and therefore also added it to their newest game.
Ping Everything!
No this is not a conference call but in Borderlands 3 you can now highlight locations, weapons, NPCs, enemies, and other objects in the game world. No more having to wait and stand around for your buddy to show up when you found a hidden vault symbol or awesome piece of gear. With the new loot instancing, it’s easier to share loot drops with your friends since you both get a version of that item in your own game world.
There is also a verbal shout-out from your character which corresponds with the location/item you ping. So your character will call out that enemy or loot chest. This is handy if you don’t have a mic when playing co-op or are just lazy and tell your friend what’s going on 😛
You can ‘ping’ things by pressing the up button on the d-pad (Xbox Controller). If you are wondering what other changes Gearbox made to your controller layout, then check out this control scheme overview.
