Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Entertainment, announced at a 2022 stakeholder presentation that new Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands experiences are being developed because the game’s success exceeded their wildest expectations. Randy Pitchford stated that they have a new franchise in their hands and since then, we have seen the release of a comic book series.
Hints of a sequel being in development arose as a LinkedIn profile listed Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2 on their resumes. According to Kotaku’s sources, TTWL2 underwent a soft reboot in early 2024. This was around the time Take-Two Interactive acquired Gearbox Entertainment from the Embracer Group.
Is Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Sequel Cancelled?
mp1st broke the news on December 16, 2024, claiming that the sequel to Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands was canceled, however, an anonymous 2K employee stated that Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2 is still in active development.
mp1st’s evidence was based on the layoffs at Lost Boys Interactive, a studio that supports Gearbox Software with the production of their titles, and the LinkedIn profile from one of the employees. mp1st interpreted the “unpublished” sidenote on the resume in favor of their case that the game was canceled. They have since updated their article which contradicts their initial reporting.
My Take
While Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands isn’t officially announced the various nuggets of information suggest that Gearbox Software is working on it. The studio rather announces a game when they have a concrete game to present because a lot of things change during development. Things can be reworked or never make it into the final game.
