Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Getting Pearlescent Weapons?

With the news of why Borderlands 3 doesn’t have a Pearlescent weapon rarity, comes the question if Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will see the same fate. But by piecing together the info that is out there, I’m hopeful that we will see them in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.

Why There are No Pearls in Borderlands 3

Randy Pitchford responded to fellow content creator Ki11erSix why there weren’t any Pearlescent weapons in Borderlands 3. Randy explained that this had all to do with developing for multiple platforms. While they were pushing the systems to their limits you are basically creating a game around the weakest platform. Because with crossplay in mind, you want the game to be the same on every platform, therefore, Gearbox Software has to choose wisely how they use their resources.

Randy Pitchford stated that adding Pearlescent weapons to Borderlands 3 would have meant that they would have needed to cut 1 weapon manufacturer or 1 weapon type. Since weapons have a global impact on memory and performance that couldn’t have simply been added as a DLC.

Will There be Pearls in Wonderlands?

Gearbox Software wasn’t able to add Pearlescent weapons to Borderlands 3 because of the hardware limitations of the PS4 therefore certain trade-offs were made. Since Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is also being developed for last-gen consoles (Xbox One & PS4), you could assume that the game will follow in the same footsteps as Borderlands 3, however, I think that is not the case.

Yes, there will be Pearls in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

Remember when Randy said that they would have to cut an entire weapon manufacturer or weapon class to be able to add Pearls to Borderlands 3. Well, it looks like that’s exactly what they have done for Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.

If you look at the weapon manufacturer list that Gearbox Software and 2K Games confirmed on the Wonderlands Website, you can see that Maliwan and Atlas are missing. This means they basically already confirmed that they have cut weapon manufacturers and that this could open up the way for Pearlescent Weapons in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.

The announcement of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands did mention end-game content. I believe that Pearlescent weapons are great for end-game, to keep players on the hunt for exciting loot.

No, there won’t be Pearls in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

Why wasn’t Maliwan added to the site because they are included in the Bunkers and Badasses Boardgame but are now called Malefactor? Did GBX/2K do an oopsie or is there still a big reveal/plot twist coming up?

Maybe Maliwan & Atlas were removed from the gun manufacturer list because they needed resources for the Melee weapon manufacturers. Because in an interview about Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands it was mentioned that Melee Weapons have different manufacturers.
