Borderlands 3: Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode

Borderlands 3 currently doesn’t have an Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode (UVHM). Previous Borderlands titles did have this game mode that allowed you to replay the game at a very high difficulty setting. Borderlands 3 does have True Vault Hunter Mode (TVHM) and Mayhem Mode.

  • True Vault Hunter Mode
    • This allows you to replay the game at a higher difficulty setting. You can restart your mission progress at any time without losing your character’s progress. This is great if you want to experience the story once again or if you want to farm for specific quest items.
  • Mayhem Mode
    • This lets you add another difficulty layer on top of the mode you are playing. This can be Normal Mode or True Vault Hunter Mode.

Borderlands 3 End Game Re-Imagined

The end game of Borderlands 3 changed because of the addition of Mayhem Mode. Because this directly impacts level scaling it impacts the end-game, therefore, UVHM isn’t needed. You unlock Mayhem Mode when you complete the main story. By enabling the Mayhem Mode all enemies will scale to your level and you will be able to level up your character to the max level cap. With previous Borderlands titles, you needed to play TVHM to reach the max level cap. Because you could only get up to LVL ~32, you needed TVHM to get to LVL50+. This is no longer the case with Borderlands 3.

Instead of keeping you do the same thing over and over again. Gearbox wanted to focus on giving you a bigger variety of content to play. There are Circle of Slaughters and Proving Grounds to find. But on top of that, there are seasonal events and takedowns.

No Need For UVHM

Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode wouldn’t add anything to the game at this point. Because you can reset your progress in True Vault Hunter Mode and you can increase the difficulty with Mayhem Mode. Both already increase your drop chances and loot quality significantly. Mayhem Mode even adds new loot to the game. There is M4 Loot and M6 Loot. You can only get these items if you play on that Mayhem Level or higher.
