Yay or Nay?
Borderlands 3 received a bunch of feedback about its main story. Now fans are wondering if Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will suffer the same faith or will Gearbox Software succeed and deliver an awesome main story?
Storytelling is Hard
Gearbox Software revealed with the release of Borderlands 3 Director’s Cut that they initially had more in store for us. But because of some design and resource decisions, some key moments were scrapped.
The general reception of the deleted scenes was shocking. Because Maya’s death was addressed and the story arc of Ava and Lilith made sense. While storytelling is hard, it shows that Gearbox is capable of creating a good story.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Story
In Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, you play a game of Bunkers & Badasses with Tiny Tina as your bunker master. You are set on a quest to defeat the Dragon Lord.
Matt Cox is the Creative Director of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. He was responsible for the boss fights in Borderlands 3 and also was an associate creative director of Bounty of Blood. This Borderlands 3 DLC was well-received for its story and gameplay.
Sam Winkler who now is in the lead writer position previously was a co-lead writer on Borderlands 3, co-writer on all its DLCs. Sam started at Gearbox during the Battleborn days as he wrote all the DLCs and additional DLC characters. Personally, I really liked Battleborn and the DLC content was great.
Sam Winkler said on social media that 90% of criticism on Borderlands 3’s story is fair.
We know why each and every decision/mistake turned out the way it did, so we were much more prepared on the DLCs to avoid the pitfalls both in our control and out!
Sam Winkler
Gearbox Software previously didn’t have a formal narrative department. That got established throughout the development of Borderlands 3. So things within the studio have leveled up.
Conclusion
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is in good hands, Gearbox Software definitely has the talent. With each game, the studio has leveled up and learned from its mistakes. I’m confident that they will deliver an enjoyable experience with a good story.
