Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Age Rating
Gearbox Software and 2K Games are aiming for an ESRB T for Teen rating for Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. I came across this info in the footer of the press release that was published alongside the game’s reveal.
This rating is interesting since Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is a Borderlands spin-off game, however, the Borderlands franchise has always received an M for Mature rating. Therefore, I did a little digging to see what has changed.

The Bunkers & Badasses Audience
While Gearbox Software and 2K Games are aiming for a broader audience they aren’t making a kids game. If you compare the ESRB ratings from Borderlands 3, Battleborn, and Fortnite. You see that Borderlands has profanity listed while the others don’t. With less cursing and sexual themes, They can maintain the gameplay we know from a Borderlands game and get a lower rating.
The Borderlands franchise has had different tones. The first Borderlands had dark humor while Borderlands 2 was lighter. While some folks preferred the tone of BL1, others enjoyed the tone of BL2 with its fart jokes. The tone of Borderlands 3 leans more towards the first Borderlands game. That said, It wouldn’t surprise me if Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will further embrace the tone of Borderlands 2.
Content Creators
The T for Teen rating would also be helping out content creators. Youtube and Twitch have been trying to make their platforms more appealing to advertisers. Profanity is one of those factors that will scare off the advertisers. In response, they will mark your videos as less suitable for monetization.
