About the ION CANNON:
The ION CANNON is a legendary Vladof Rocket Launcher in Borderlands 3 and is part of the Handsome Jackpot DLC. In this weapon guide, you will learn about the ION CANNON’s unique powers, how to obtain one for yourself, and other tips and tricks.
Special Weapon Effect:
“Fun detected. Obliterate.”
- Pinpoint accurate and high damage launcher that deals splash damage
- Requires a charge-up.
- A fully charged ION Cannon deals 120% damage.
How to get the Ion Cannon?
The best way to obtain the Ion Cannon is by farming Fabricator MK II, who is located on the map Jack’s Secret on The Handsome Jackpot, as they are the dedicated loot source for this item and have a 100% chance of dropping this weapon. It’s a pretty long walk, so you’d better equip a snowdrift artifact to speed up your farm.
Changelog:
- Hotfix January 16, 2020
- Base Reload Speed reduced to 5 seconds.
- Now Consumes at least 6 ammo per shot.
My Perspective:
The ION CANNON was an absolute beast; this Vladof Launcher erases everything you shoot at. After a short charge-up, you can fire fast-traveling projectiles. If you are familiar with the Spartan Laser from the Halo franchise, you know what a blast this weapon can be.
The ION Cannon did receive a balance adjustment, which increased the ammo consumption. The new power vs cost balance turned this weapon more into a bossing weapon, as before, people were killing everything with it. You can use these Ammo Regeneration tricks to restore your launcher ammo and negate the heavy ammo consumption.
The Kickcharger is a better version of the ION Cannon; however, this requires you to farm Arms Race, and that can be a very time-consuming objective.
Trivia:
- The red text could be a troll move from GBX to all the complaints that they nerfed all the powerful weapons during the first weeks of the game’s release. Fans were complaining that GBX destroyed all the “fun” aka overpowered weapons
