Borderlands 3 has a lot of legendary weapons while some shine because they are the strongest weapons to use others shine because they provide different benefits. Borderlands games have always been about finding interesting interactions between the items. Welcome to the Weapon Utility Tier of Borderlands 3. These weapons are there to compliment your build as they act as instruments to raise it to the next level rather than being the main damage dealer.
Borderlands 3 Utility Weapons
The Clockwork Res is an Atlas Pistol that can save your teammate from dying because when you shoot them with this gun, you can get them out of ‘Fight For Your Life’ without having to run to them and hold the revive button for several seconds, putting you and the team at risk.
The Clockwork Res is a great utility tool when you are farming the raid boss with a team and the team is struggling to stay up.
The Clockwork Res is an Arms Race exclusive Legendary. It can randomly drop from any suitable loot source within the Stormblind Complex located on Pandora. However, you have a high chance of getting the Clockwork Res from the Red Chest at location F on the map.
The Crader’s EM-P5 is a Dahl SMG that boosts your movement speed. This is a great tool if you quickly want to travel to a specific location. We’ve all been there, you want to farm a boss but the fast travel station is not even close. Equipping the Crader’s EM-P5 lets you get there a lot faster.
You can use Crader’s EM-P5 in combination with a Snowdrift Artifact to go supersonic. Zane has some interesting interactions that increase your damage based on your movement speed. Although there are stronger weapons you can use.
The Crader’s EM-P5 is Mayhem Mode 4 or higher Legendary. You can get it from Valkyrie Squad who is located in Maliwan Takedown. It also has a chance of dropping from the Agonizer 9000 that is located in the Guts of Carnivora on Pandora.
The Guardian 4N631 is a Hyperian Shotgun that increases your damage the further you are away from an enemy. This boost goes up to an insane +400%!!! While the weapon itself isn’t the most ideal to shoot at greater distances, the weapon’s unique bonus effect also applies to other damage sources. This means if you have the Guardian 4N631 equipped in your hands and you throw a grenade, that grenade gets the same buff as the Guardian 4N631.
Bflattened’s Gamebreaker Build makes great use of the Guardian 4N631’s unique abilities.
The Guardian 4N631 is a Director’s Cut exclusive Legendary. You can get one by leveling up your ‘Fallen Heroes’ Vault Card. It will cost you 5 ‘Fallen Hero’ Vault Card Keys. The first one is a fixed reward and will be unanointed. When you redeem your next one it will be anointed. Vault Card weapons will always be redeemed at your character’s level.
The Mechanic is a COV Heavy Weapon and it increases your vehicle’s Gun and Ramming damage. I like the reference to Scooter and how creative the developers got with this item, however, I don’t see much use for this weapon as there isn’t a lot of vehicle combat. Usually, I drive from point A to B and ignore other vehicles along the way unless they are extremely annoying.
I could see this weapon being useful during the big Carnivora fight.
The Mechanic is a Director’s Cut exclusive Legendary.
The Psycho Stabber is a COV Pistol that increases your melee damage. This weapon can make your Melee build shine. RestAssured has a great Zane Build and Joltzdude has a great Amara Build by combining the Psycho Stabber with the Stinger Shield.
The Psycho Stabber can be obtained from any loot source but has a high chance of dropping from Borman Nates who is located in the Meridian Outskirts on Promethea.
The S3RV-80S-EXECUTE is a Tediore Pistol that can help you melt bosses as it weakens its target when it’s thrown at them. An empty EXECUTE applies a debuff that lets you deal 50% more damage. This effect lasts for 12 seconds and can be stacked.
The Sellout is a Maliwan Pistol that lets you apply a DoT to yourself. You can use this to your advantage to increase your damage with an Elemental Projector Artifact.
As you can control the element of the Dot and equip the corresponding weapons that match that same element. An Artifact with the Elemental Projector prefix increases your Elemental Damage based on the elemental DoT you are hit with.
The Sellout can be obtained from the mission ‘Sell Out‘ located in Ambermire if you choose to kill yourself and don’t destroy the cameras.
The Unforgiven is a Jakobs Pistol which has an insane high critical hit damage. This strength can be exploited by something that’s called Crit Swapping. Because the damage of a projectile is calculated on hit, you can fire weapons with slow-moving projectiles, and swap to the Unforgiven and those projectiles will also get the increased critical hit damage.
Crit Swapping also works well with Torgue stickies.
The Unforgiven has an increased chance of dropping from Indo Tyrant who is located in Floodmoor Basin on Eden-6.
The Zheitsevs Eruption is a COV Assault Rifle that can apply a debuff to your enemies and lets you deal increased damage. When the Zheitsevs Eruption overheats it will it shoots out 8 homing projectiles that will weaken an enemy for 7 seconds. Each homing projectile can apply this effect and therefore this can boost your damage up to +200%.
The great thing about this effect is that you can force it by switching your weapon during this “reload” animation. This will trigger the Zheitsevs Eruption’s special effect over and over again.
Since any other weapon benefits from the bonus damage effect, you are basically just marking targets this way and finishing them off with your favorite weapon.
