Maliwan Takedown
Conquering the Maliwan Blacksite isn’t an easy task. Gearbox Software has designed this Takedown to be a challenging fight. Therefore you must equip your Vault Hunter with the best weapons you can find in the Borderlands. However, if you are wondering which weapons you should take with you, then this Borderlands 3 guide is for you. In this guide, I will recommend you several items that will help you take down this challenge.
The Maliwan Takedown will first start off with some wretches, you can take, if possible, some incendiary version of these weapons with you to counter them. But you can just run past them and go straight for the Maliwan troops that are positioned on the wall. If you take these out, the gate will open and from this point on you will face off against enemies with shields and armor. Having shock weapons like the Brainstormer and an Electric Banjo artifact equipped will help you strip those shields. For the armored enemies, you can use a corrosive Cutsman or a Lob with the new meta. The Kyb’s Worth is also useful as it can create healing aura’s for you to stand in to regain some health. If you encounter heavies, you can use the Maggie to hit their crit spot on their back. The Brainstormer and the Recursion are great for mobbing. For Bosses, you want to use the Cutsman or the Lyuda.
Maggie
The Maggie is the hardest hitting Jakobs Pistol that deals pure damage. The Maggie fires 6 projectiles per shot and has a fast reload speed. This Masher-style pistol will out-perform most revolvers if you compare the damage output, however, it will do so at the cost of its accuracy. The Maggie is great for close to mid-range combat. The Maggie can be obtained from any loot source but has a high chance of dropping from Tremendous Rex who is located in the Cistern of Slaughter.
There is a new legendary pistol in the Guns, Love, and Tentacles DLC that works and performs on the same level as the Maggie. Check out the ‘Little Yeeti‘, it’s also a Jakobs pistol and acts like a shotgun.
Cutsman
The Cutsman shoots out a projectile that splits into 2 orbs after a short distance. These orbs stay connected as an energy beam will make a connection between them. The weapon itself has a bit of a charge up and the projectiles move pretty slow, however, it compensates that with the width of the projectiles. The Cutsman can be obtained from any loot source but has a high chance of dropping from Borman Nates who is located in the Merdian Outskirts on Promethea.
The Lob
Since that the Lob received a buff, this Torgue shotgun has been on the top of every tier list. The Lob has become a replacement for the Cutsman as it comes te erasing enemies and bosses. This Torgue Shotgun shoots slow-moving elemental orbs that can pass through enemies while dealing massive damage. The Lob can be randomly obtained from any loot source but it has a high chance of dropping from Graveward who is located in The Floating Tomb on Eden-6.
Brainstormer
The Brainstormer always has the shock element. It fires 7 projectiles in a lightning bolt pattern. The Brainstormer is great for mobbing and stripping shields. This is because of its legendary effect as it can create a chain lightning shock between enemies that are in close proximity to each other. The Brainstormer can be randomly obtained from any loot source but it has a high chance of dropping from Katagawa Ball who is located in Skywell-27 on Promethea.
With the release of Mayhem Mode 2.0, Gearbox Software added new Mayhem LVL6+ Legendaries. Instead of the Brainstormer, you can pick up the Reflux. This is basically a corrosive Brainstormer with higher stats. Since you will be encountering a lot of Armored enemies in the Takedown, the Reflux is an ideal weapon for mobbing.
Kyb’s Worth
The Kyb’s Worth comes equipped with a shield just like Hyperion weapons do. The Kyb’s Worth shoots multiple projectiles that travel in a wave pattern. It deals great damage but only if you manage to hit your target because the projectiles can curve around an enemy. Therefore this weapon is best suited for medium-range combat because that’s when the projectiles are near to each other. When you defeat an enemy with the Kyb’s Worth it will spawn a healing aura. This special legendary effect only occurs once every 10 seconds. The Kyb’s Worth can be obtained in Maliwan’s Blacksite, it has a high chance of dropping from Wotan the Invincible.
Recursion
The Recursion has a slow fire rate and it even feels slower than the listed fire rate as Maliwan weaponry has a charge-up time. That said, the Recursion does pack a punch as it shoots a tight pellet of projectiles making it very accurate for a shotgun. The projectiles can also ricochet from one enemy to another or bounce off surfaces. The Recursion is really great for clearing mobs and really works great if you add additional elemental effects to your character build. You can do this by using gear that has an anoint that triggers this effect. The Recursion can be obtained from any loot source but has a high chance of dropping from General Traunt who is located in the Desolation’s Edge on Nekrotafeyo.
A good honorable mention could be the Hyperfocus as it also has the ability to ricochet a lot of bullets. But if you are playing Zane, then you should swap this SMG for the Redistributor. Because if you pair this weapon with your barrier, then all shot trigger the gun’s special ability.
Lyuda
The Lyuda is one of the most powerful weapons in the game. Each bullet will split into 3 projectiles dealing a ton of damage, however, the split happens when the projectile has traveled a short distance. Therefore the Lyuda is best used for medium-range combat. The Lyuda can be obtained from any loot source and is a guaranteed reward for completing all of Zero’s Target of Opportunity missions. But it also has an increased chance to drop from Tremendous Rex can spawn in the Cistern of Slaughter.
