Best Legendary Assault Rifles
There are a lot of legendary Assault Rifles in Borderlands 3 but like any true Vault Hunter, you only want to best of the best. This weapons guide will tell you exactly which Assault Rifles you should have equipped in your inventory. So get ready to farm these babies:
10 – Rowan’s Call
The Rowan’s Call is a Jakobs Assault Rifle and is a great weapon with an alien barrel. Just like the other “Call” weapons in Borderlands 3, if you manage to score a critical hit with this weapon, your magazine will refill automatically. The other special effect of the Rowan’s Call is that it will ricochet 2 bullets instead of the default 1 for Jakobs weaponry.
The Rowan’s Call can be obtained randomly from any loot source but has a high chance of dropping from Red Rain who is located in Slaughterstar 3000. Red Rain has a 50% drop chance and you will encounter them in the final wave (wave 5 of Round 5) of this Circle of Slaughter.
9 – NoPewPew
The NoPewPew is a COV Assault Rifle that shoots multiple projectiles per shot and its fire rate keeps increasing the longer you hold the trigger. Ammo consumption is pretty decent as it only consumes 1 ammo for 3 projectiles. The x4 consumes 2 ammo and the x5 consumes 3 ammo. Once you killed an enemy a lava pool will spawn at their location, just like the Ember’s Purge, making it a “No-Go-Area” for you and your opponents. These lava pools also deal a lot of damage.
he NoPewPew is a Revenge of the Cartels Legendary. You can get it from Roaster, The Tenderizer, and Joey Ultraviolet in Villa Ultraviolet during the Revenge of the Cartels Event.
8 – Rebound
The Rebound is a COV Assault Rifle that shoots out sawblades that fly through the air instead of rolling over the ground like some other sawblade-firing weapons in the game.
The projectiles of the Rebound pierce through enemies and ricochet twice against the environment. You could line up your shots so the bounce of the projectile lines up with your target again. However, it is just fun shooting this weapon and having a ton of sawblades flying through the combat zone. You can get the Rebound as an x2 or x3 version.
The Rebound has an increased chance of dropping from Psychoreaver who is located at Vaulthalla in Krieg’s Mind.
7 – Clairvoyance
The Clairvoyance is a Jakobs Assault Rifle that is pretty strong although it suffers from a slow fire rate. Unless you have a Gatlin gun version of the Clairvoyance, this weapon is a beast! You can look out for a masher version if that’s your thing. This weapon is always Cryo and Critical hits, place a stick bomb onto the target. When the sticky bomb explodes a projectile will ricochet to a nearby enemy.
The Clairvoyance has an increased chance of dropping from Kritchy who is located in Cursehaven on Xylourgas. It is the Legendary Hunt monster on that map.
6 – (Boom) Sickle
The Sickle is a Vladof Assault Rifle that is basically an automatic shotgun. If you are going to farm this weapon, go after the ‘Boom’ variant. This prefix deals splash damage which allows you to boost its damage even further with the right gear and skills.
Moze players can really boost this weapon to the next level with the Torgue Cross-Promotion Skill.
The Sickle can randomly be obtained from any loot source but has a high chance of dropping from the Anointed x4 who is located in The Anvil on Eden-6.
5 – Soulrender
The Soulrender is a Dahl Assault Rifle that has a high base damage and fire rate. Alongside this damage output, the Soulrender can also randomly shoot skulls. These Skulls home into the nearest target and deal massive damage. The Soulrender can be Full-auto, Semi-auto, or Burst fire. The Purple Skulls deal splash damage.
The Soulrender has a high chance of dropping from Tom & Xam who are located in Heart’s Desire on Xylourgos. You can easily farm these bosses by defeating one of them and then fast-travel to the nearest station. This resets the fight, spawning both bosses again while leaving the loot.
4 – Contained Blast
The Contained Blast is a Torgue Semi-Auto Assault Rifle that shoots both Gyrojets that explode on impact and sticky bombs that explode after a short delay. Sticky Bombs will explode after 10 seconds or when you reload or swap the weapon.
This weapon isn’t very accurate at long ranges, therefore, it’s best used for close and medium ranges. This is a great weapon for Moze but also works well with other Vault Hunters.
The Contained Blast has an increased chance of dropping from Abbadoxis who is located in Ashfall Peaks on Gehenna. But this weapon can also ‘World Drop’ in the Bounty of Blood DLC.
3 – The Monarch
The Monarch is a Vladof Assault Rifle that shoots like a shotgun. It has a high magazine capacity and fire rate. With the Bipod Mode, it kinda functions like the Dictator as the pellet spread increases. You can see the Monarch as the better version of the Dictator, however, it is a Mayhem Mode 6 or higher Legendary and therefore might be challenging to obtain.
You can get it from Killavolt who is located in Lectra City on Promethea. If you are a badass you can also farm Sera of Supremacy on True Trials for a 50% drop chance but if that’s not for you, the Monarch occasionally appears in Maurice’s Black Market.
2 – Blade Fury
The Blade Fury is a Jakobs Assault Rifle that stands out because it deals both bullet and melee damage.
This is a unique combination as most guns only deal weapon damage. The Facepuncher is the only weapon that deals melee damage but the Blade Fury does both. The Blade Fury isn’t just a strong weapon but its combination of damage also allows for powerful builds.
You can augment the Blade Fury with Artifacts to add elemental damage, health regen, ammo regen, or explosives.
The Blade Fury is redeemable through Vault Card 3 which is part of The Director’s Cut. You are going to need 5 Vault Card Keys to be able to redeem this weapon. The first one is not anointed, the following items will be.
1 – O.P.Q System
The O.P.Q System is an Atlas Assault Rifle and this weapon is a beast. Originally, locked behind a seasonal event, however, since the permanent inclusion of seasonal events you can have a max-level OPQ System. Although an LVL57 version still performs great on LVL65 M10 and that says something about getting an on-level version.
The Alt-Fire allows you to spawn a drone copy of the weapon for 13 seconds. During this time the drone will shoot at the same target as you are aiming at. The Drone will occasionally shoot shock projectiles. The impact of the shock projectiles can hurt you. The Drone will despawn if you switch weapons.
This is also an amazing weapon to hand over to Zane’s clone.
The O.P.Q. System is a Revenge of the Cartels Legendary. You can get it from Josie Byte, Franco Firewall, and Joey Ultraviolet in Villa Ultraviolet during the Revenge of the Cartels Event.
Bonus – Bekah
The Bekah is a very powerful Jakobs Assault Rifle that works best on enemies at mid-range. After the main projectile has traveled a short distance it will be followed by 3 additional projectiles that are in a horizontal pattern. With each shot, you will hit your enemies at least twice.
When you are at an optimal distance you will also be able to land the other 2 projectiles that travel a bit to the side. Like every Jakobs weapon, each critical hit will ricochet the projectile to a nearby enemy.
The Bekah is a great reward for completing the legendary hunt challenge, but it occasionally appears in Maurice’s Black Market.
