Epic Purple Items Better Than Orange Legendaries?
Borderlands 3 has a lot of weapons and in gaming, it’s often assumed that gear of the highest rarity tier are also the best items in the game. However, that’s not always the case because in Borderlands 3 there are actually rare Epic weapons that outperform their Legendary counterpart. In this Borderlands 3 Guide, I’m going to tell you for which Epic weapons you need to keep an eye out because these items deserve a slot in your backpack!
Best Epic Weapons
These are some of the best purple items in Borderlands 3.
Q-system
The Q-System is an Atlas Assault Rifle that outperforms a lot of other weapons of its kind. It can even deal more damage than its legendary counterpart the Carrier. Just like any other Atlas weapon the Q-System has an alternate fire mode that shoots a tracker puck, grenade, or dart that lets you mark enemies and turn your bullets into homing projectiles.
Because the Q-System was beloved by fans, Gearbox Software added another legendary version to their game called the O.P.Q. System.
Stranger
The Stranger is a Torgue Assault Rifle and it’s basically a non-legendary Alchemist. You can shoot a lot of stickies on your enemy without the negative special effect of the Alchemist. Assault Rifles have a large magazine size, therefore, you can stick a lot of gyro-jets onto your opponents. However, if you get the Stranger with a lower magazine size the sticky bonus damage will increase.
Stagecoach
The Stagecoach is a Jakobs Shotgun that has a high pallet count and really packs a punch. The Stagecoach is a “single” shot shotgun and therefore has to reload after each shot. The reload speed is good on this weapon, therefore, you don’t have to wait for ages to be able to fire your next shot. This weapon is great on FL4K and I personally used this to trigger Zane’s ability to fire a grenade after a reload. If you want something from a legendary that’s similar to this, you could check out the Hellwalker.
Bangstick
The Bangstick is a Torgue Shotgun that is probably one of the highest-damaging shotguns in the game.
Cloning Maddening Tracker
The Cloning Maddening Tracker Grenade mod by Atlas is awesome. It comes with the following parts; Homing, Divider, MIRV, and Bounce. You throw out 2 homing grenades that each will split into 3 grenades on impact. These 6 grenades will also be homing and will find a nearby target. Because of the bounce component, these 6 grenades will seek out a target 3 times, giving you a total of 20 explosions for the price of 1 grenade ammo.
Everblasts
The Everblasts is a Tediore Shotgun that can deal a lot of damage. When you toss this weapon with each reload, 3 homing projectiles will seek out a nearby enemy and divebomb into them. The Everblast was one of the weapons that was banned from the Maliwan Takedown Challange because it is that good.
Lump
The Lump is a Torgue Rocket Launcher which is basically the non-legendary Kill-o’-the-Wisp. When firing this weapon the projectile will create a beam to nearby enemies and damage them. Unlike the Kill-o’-the-Wisp, the Lump comes in other elements.
Quicky/Hedgehog
These two Torgue Rocket Launchers deal a lot of damage. The Quicky is a bit faster than the Hedgehog but that weapon makes up for it in raw damage. If you like to crit swap then these items are also great for that. Stick those Torgue Gyro-jets and stack up the damage.
Double Downer
The Double Downer is an Epic shield that can be obtained in the Handsome Jackpot DLC by completing the mission Double Downer. It increases your Fight For Your Life duration, weapon damage, accuracy, and handling when crippled. If you go down a lot, then this shield can help you stay in the fight. You can run this shield during a takedown or if you rather have a legendary then check out the Stop-Gap.
