Borderlands 3 Ammo Regeneration Guide
Borderlands 3 Ammo Regeneration Guide

We all love to use our favorite weapons in Borderlands 3 but they eventually run out of ammo and there are only so many Ammo Storage Deck Upgrades (SDU) you can purchase to postpone the inevitable empty magazine. In this guide, I’ll tell you the secrets to regenerating ammunition in Borderlands 3.

Borderlands 3: Ammo Regeneration Explained

There are multiple ways you can regenerate your ammunition in Borderlands 3. Here are the various ways to gain back ammo in the game and bury your enemies in an avalanche of lead!

Regenerate Ammo with Artifacts

Artifacts can help you regenerate ammo whenever they have the Cutpurse prefix. Dealing Melee, Slide, or Slam Damage will restore 13% of the Ammo for you and your allies.

The Cutpurse Launch Pad is a great option to easily regenerate ammo because you can quickly perform a Slam during combat. The artifact will launch a missile barrage into the sky that will seek out a nearby target. These missiles deal Melee damage and therefore will trigger the Cutpurse’s ammo regen effect.

Having the ‘C’mon and Slam’ Guardian Rank Perk allows you to perform a Slam by simply jumping instead of needing to jump down to a lower surface.

An alternative to the Launch Pad would be the Cutpurse Rocket Boots as this artifact shoots rockets forward while sliding but this requires more coordination from your end.

There is another trick you can do and that’s by combining a Cutpurse Artifact with the Fish Slap Grenade Mod. This allows you to rock a Cutpurse Victory Rush for the damage boost and use the Fish Slap to regenerate your ammo because this Grenade Mod deals Melee Damage.

Regenerate Ammo with a Shield

The Super Soldier is an Anshin Shield that offers 5% Ammo Regen while also increasing your fire rate and movement speed. Your shield needs to be fully charged for these effects to become active.

You can combine an Absorb Shield and a Torgue weapon with Sticky Mode to transfer one Ammo type to another. Absorb Shields have a chance to absorb (enemy) projectiles and transfer them into Ammo for your current weapon. You could trigger this effect by shooting Torgue Stickies at your feet and taking the self-damage. You can utilize the delayed explosions from the Torgue Stickies to swap to a Rocket Launcher and refill its ammunition. I recommend using a Big Boom Blaster because it drops Shield Boosters that refill 60% of your Shield Capacity and add 1 Grenade and 1 Rocket to your inventory.

Regenerate Ammo with Anoints

The Bloody Harvest Event added Terror Anoints to Borderlands 3. There is a Terror Anoint that provides Ammo Regen while being Terrified. The more Terror you have, the higher the bonus. This boost caps out at 16% Ammo regen but to achieve this, you will need to use other Terror Anoints to effectively apply the Terror effect on yourself. The ‘On Action Skill End, apply Terror to yourself every 3 seconds for the next 18 seconds’ anoint is the best solution.

Zane has an Operative Only Anoint that allows him to refill his weapon’s magazine while his Digi-Clone is active. This anoint has a 30% Ammo regen rate.

Regenerate Ammo with Skills

Each Vault Hunter has unique skills or builds that positively affect your ammo consumption.

Amara

Amara doesn’t have any skills that provide free ammo but she does have a skill called ‘Deep Well’ that increases her magazine size with elemental weapons. This skill can be useful for increasing the amount of ammo regeneration when utilizing other ammo regen methods.

FL4K

FL4K can use the skill ‘Leave No Trace’ to get 1 bullet back when scoring a Critical Hit. You can combine this with the Megavore Capstone and/or the Fade Away Action Skill and the Guerillas in the Mist Augment.

FL4K can use this ‘Rakk Attack’ Action Skill in combination with the Peregrine Class Mod, a Fish Slap Grenade Mod, and a Cutpurse Artifact. The Class Mod will cause your Rakk Attack to drop your current grenade mod and because the Fish Slap deals Melee damage, it will trigger the ammo regen from the Cutpurse Artifact.

Moze

Moze can use multiple skills throughout her Skill Trees: ‘Forge’, ‘Redistribution’, ‘Means of Destruction’, ‘Cloud of Lead’, and ‘Some for on the Road’ to get free shots.

Zane

Zane can use the skill ‘Deja Vu’ to get 1 bullet back if you kill an enemy with a Critical Hit.

Zane can use the ‘Drone Delivery’ Skill from his Blue ‘Hitman’ Skill Tree to drop a Fish Slap every 15 seconds. The Melee damage of this Grenade Mod can trigger a Cutpurse Artifact, I recommend a Victory Rush while mobbing.

Regenerate Ammo with Weapons

There aren’t any weapons that really regenerate ammunition but there are weapons that return ammo to your magazine if you use them as intended. There are a few items that refill your magazine but the ammunition is still coming from your reserves.

Here is an overview of weapons that provide free bullets.

Ammo MechanicWeapons
Return Bullets on Critical HitKing’s Call, Queen’s Call, Rowan’s Call, Robin’s Call, Lucian’s Call, Wedding Invitation
Free Ammo on OverheatPain is Power, Embrace the Pain

How to Gain Infinite Ammo in Borderlands 3

Infinite Ammo in Borderlands 3 is all about balancing your Ammo Regeneration Rate and your Rate of fire. Weapons with a high magazine size and a slower fire rate help you achieve that because the Ammo Regen Rate is based on your current magazine size.

Skills, Class Mods, and Artifacts that boost your magazine size increase the potential number of ammo regen. Fire Rate bonuses technically increase your DPS but if you shoot faster than regenerating bullets, you will be forced to reload your weapon which lowers your DPS.

Magazine size16% Terror Ammo Regen Rate
41 bullet per second
61 bullet per second
102 bullets per second
254 bullets per second
508 bullets per second
7512 bullets per second
10016 bullets per second
12520 bullets per second

Conclusion

As you see there are a lot of ways to regenerate ammunition in Borderlands 3, some are more effective than others but they all need some kind of setup. Go for a solution that fits or compliments your build.

Personally, I recommend getting a Cutpurse Launch Pad because you can simply pop that thing on, perform a few slams and your ammo will be maxed out.
