Gearbox Software added the Diamond Armory to Borderlands 3 as a free content update alongside the release of The Director’s Cut (DLC6). This loot room is filled with legendary items, however, you only have a limited time to choose 3 items. You will receive one additional Legendary Item from the Diamond Chest in the center of the room when the time expires or when you have selected your 3 items.

How to access the Diamond Armory in Borderlands 3?
The Diamond Armory in Borderlands 3 is located underneath Sanctuary 3’s bridge.
You can get there by fast traveling to Sanctuary and then running to the other side of the ship. Walk past all the terminals on the bridge and go down the stairs in the back of the room. Downstairs you will find a door that leads to the Diamond Armory aka Loot Room.
You need a Diamond Keys to activate the center chest in the Diamond Armory. You will get notified about the Diamond Armory’s location when you own a Diamond Key.
How to get Diamond Keys in Borderlands 3?
There are two ways to obtain Diamond Keys in Borderlands 3.
- You occasionally get one from a Borderlands 3 SHiFT Code, however, these are very rare as they are only given out on special occasions.
- You can unlock Diamond Keys by leveling up your Vault Cards which are part of The Director’s Cut (DLC6).
How Does the Diamond Armory Work in Borderlands 3?
You will find a Diamond Chest in the center of the Diamond Armory. This is the loot room’s activation key and requires 1 Diamond Key.
Behind the Diamond Chest are 3 walls filled with gear racks. One for Shields, one for Weapons, and one for Grenade Mods. These will be filled with high-quality loot once you use a Diamond Key.
A countdown timer starts running when the Diamond Armory is activated. You will have 300 seconds to choose 1 item from each gear type and while 5 minutes might sound like a lot, comparing all the stats will quickly consume your time.
Diamond Armory Loot
The Diamond Armory provides high-quality loot. The majority will be Legendary Loot but you will also find powerful Epic Gear, so keep an eye out for triple roll items or Cloning Maddening Tracker Grenade Mod.
You can get Legendary Items from the Borderlands 3 DLCs in the Diamond Armory. You can always pick these up but need to own the DLC to use the item.
The Diamond Armory contains:
- 30 Shield Mods
- 15 to 30 Weapons (a weapon takes 1 or 2 slots per shutter)
- 30 Grenade Mods
Diamond Loot Chest
The Diamond Loot Chest will open up once you have selected your 3 items from the wall (or if the countdown runs out). The final chest will always reward you with a Legendary Item from the Black Market Loot Pool. This means that the final reward will be one of the 3 weekly items.
Fun Fact: the chest in the center of the room is the same Diamond Loot chest from the Collector’s Edition.

It’s best to use Diamond Keys when you have a Max Level character in Borderlands 3. Diamond Keys are rare and you can easily out-level the Legendary Items when playing through the story campaign.
No, every item in the Diamond Armory is also available throughout the game. There are a few challenge/quest rewards that don’t have a dedicated loot source that appears in the Diamond Armory.
The loot inside that you get from the Diamond Armory is on level with your character just like the vending machines aboard Sanctuary III.
Yes, activating Butt Stallion Milk from the Borderlands Science Machine increases the chance at Legendary Gear in the Diamond Armory significantly.
Yes, you can destroy a vehicle in the cargo bay and quickly make your way to the Diamond Armory to increase the loot quality of the loot room. Use Zane’s Clone, Speed Buffs, or Torgue Stickies/Smartgun Spider on the vehicle to trigger the Diamond Chest in time.
Once a year a Green Dahl Pistol called the Shrike appears in the Diamond Chest and Maurice’s Black Market. This is the gun that Zane’s clone uses. This is likely an oopsie by the Gearbox Developers but technically it’s the rarest weapon in the game.
