Borderlands 2 received a lot of Downloadable Content (DLC) and you might be wondering when and in which order you should play them. Because if you are still playing through Borderlands 2’s main story campaign some DLCs might contain spoilers to that experience. Therefore, I have this handy guide to tell you when and in which order you should start playing the additional content.
When to start Borderlands 2 DLC
Your safest bet is always to play the DLCs after you finished the main story campaign because the content is additive to the experience for gamers that want more, however, there are some things you can do without jumping into spoiler territory.
1. Captain Scarlet and Mr. Torgue
Captain Scarlet and her Pirate’s Booty is the first DLC and Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage is the second DLC for Borderlands 2. They are their own adventures and can be enjoyed once you reach the level requirements. These Campaign Add-ons start at Level 15 and you can easily jump into them after the main story mission; “A Dam Fine Rescue”. You can play these in any order that you like.
Level Requirement | 15 |
Fast Travel Station | DLC1: Oasis DLC2: Badass Crater of Badassitude |
Story Spoilers | No |
2. Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt
Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt is the third DLC for Borderlands 2 and while it’s its own adventure, this Campaign Add-on takes place after the events of the main game and shows some of the impact of your actions from the main story. Therefore the level requirement is set at Level 30, which you likely have hit after finishing the main story campaign.
Level Requirement | 30 |
Fast Travel Station | Hunter’s Grotto |
Story Spoilers | Yes |
3. Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep
Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep is the fourth DLC for Borderlands 2 and while it’s its own adventure, this Campaign Add-on takes place after the events of the main game and addresses a major plot point of the main story. Therefore there is a level 30 requirement which you likely have hit after finishing the main story campaign.
Level Requirement | 30 |
Fast Travel Station | Unassuming Docks |
Story Spoilers | Yes |
4. Headhunter Packs
The headhunter packs are stand-alone DLCs that are smaller in size than the campaign add-ons. They are more tailored toward End Game content but have some fun side quests. It doesn’t matter in what order you play these so pick the one with the most fun theme.
Level Requirement | 30 |
Fast Travel Station | Unassuming Docks |
Story Spoilers | Yes |
4. Commander Lilith and Fight for Sanctuary
Commander Lilith and Fight for Sanctuary is the fifth campaign add-on for Borderlands 2 and this one was released 7 years after the game’s release. This DLC sets up the events that lead up to Borderlands 3 and therefore should definitely be played as last. There are even a few events from Borderlands the Pre-Sequel and Tales From the Borderlands sprinkled in here. Therefore, you might wanna play these before jumping into this DLC. Otherwise, the level requirement is set to LVL30.
Level Requirement | 30 |
Fast Travel Station | Fight for Sanctuary |
