How your Talent Tree works
By playing through the game you will gain experience points. You do this by defeating enemies and bosses but also for completing missions. As you gain experience you can level up your hero and unlock the character’s special abilities.
Talent Tree
Each time you level up your character you will get 1 skill point. You can use this in the character’s talent tree. In this skill tree, you can go down 3 main paths that will also branch off into various specific play styles.
Soldier’s Path
This is your offensive skill tree that focuses on improving your damage output. This path will branch off in Ranged and Melee-specific branches.
Scavenger’s Path
This is your loot skill tree that focuses on Movement Speed, Loot, and Skills. This path will branch off in movement and loot/skill-specific branches.
Survivor’s Path
This is your defensive skill tree that focuses on improving your Health, Shield, and Damage Reduction. This path will branch off in Health and Shield-specific branches.
Notice that each path has its own distinct icon. This comes into play when utilizing Empty Talent slots to create your ultimate build. More about this down below.

Skills / Talents
Each skill tree path starts with generic skills that buff the main aspects that you would expect from each of the paths. However, your build will start to shine when going further down each path.
Passive Talents
These diamond-shaped skills are your common buffs that give you a flat increase to your character.
Triggered Talents
These square-shaped skills are triggered when certain conditions are met. For example; Health below 35%, Picking up Loot, Activating Special Ability, or Killing an enemy. Triggered Talents can have a stacking mechanic that increases their effectiveness.
Empty Talent Slots
These Hexogram shaped skills are located at each conjunction point where a path will branch off and at the end of each branch. In these slots, you can equip a skill to your personal preference. Throughout the game, you will be able to find Talent Items as these are part of the loot pool. Equip your favorite ones into these Empty Talent Slots to create your ultimate build.
Talent Items
An overview of your Talent Items can be found in your Vault under the Materials tab.
Each Talent Item has a specific Talent Path assigned to them. This is indicated by the icon on the item. Therefore, Soldier Talent Items can only be slotted into the Soldier’s Path Empty Talent Slots. You can check the assigned destination in your Vault.
