About Borderlands 2 Wallpaper Pack
Back in March 2012 Gearbox had already released some character renders of the new Vault Hunters that would be playable in the new Borderlands 2. As I started making Borderlands 2 Wallpapers back then I first started making desktop backgrounds with all the vault hunters. These were Axton, Maya, Salvador & Zero. After making a couple I started making Borderlands Wallpapers for each Vault Hunter. First up was Maya, then Zero and Axton. But I had some issues creating something unique like the others for Salvador. So his design was a bit more traditional like the other Borderlands Artwork. The Salvador Wallpaper was actually the design of this Borderlands Wallpaper.
Wallpaper Evolution
So when I started making this wallpaper I made the texture that looked like the Borderlands grunge texture. It was a bit messier than the original but it worked. Added some white splatters to the background to give it a bit more contrast, used an overlay effect to blend them into the background texture. Also, I placed the iconic Vault Logo in the back to create more association with the game. Borderlands art presentation has always involved ink/blood splatters so I used that behind the Vault Hunter. At first, this would only be Salvador. But soon I found out that fans on the Gearbox forums wanted their favorite character on the next wallpaper. So I started making this wallpaper for every Vault Hunter.
I placed an overlay displaying the Vault Hunter’s name. With this, I wanted to divert from the design Gearbox used with their character presentation during the Doomsday trailer and try to create something different. On the borderlands, website menu buttons were yellow and worked really well. So I went for that approach. The Yellow bar was there to add the color more to the wallpaper so the name wouldn’t fall too much out of place. Although this is something that changed over time.
Currently, I’m updating this Borderlands Wallpaper for the third time. And you do some changes to the presentation of the Vault Hunter’s name. With the second version, I highlighted the name more and changed up the bar behind it. As I was creating the more advanced skill tree wallpapers I wanted this effect to crossover. As my wallpapers got used for lets plays on youtube I wanted a more unique design as what everyone starting to use. This new glow was also added to the Vault Logo in the background.
But all this gimmicky flair is now removed. This Borderlands wallpaper has gotten a remake and is now less messy. The background texture is cleaner than the first one. This also added to make the wallpaper less dark. No more added splatters to make it easier on the eyes. The Vault Hunter name is now in the correct font. Back in 2012, I was using a font that looked a bit like the Borderlands font, but it wasn’t. I added the character class of each Vault Hunter underneath their name. And yes the wallpaper is now more like the Doomsday presentation, with the grey paintbrush sweep. Here is an image with the 3 versions side by side.
Let me know what you think of these updates. Hopefully, you like these changes I made to the wallpaper.
